This Antique Albert Chain showcases chunky intertwined oval curb links, complete with a T-bar drop, paste spinning fob and two dog clips, modelled throughout in sterling silver. Measuring a super rare length of 16.5", this Albert chain is very versatile.
This chain features the Lion mark on every link. It has an impressive weight of 71.4 grams, and all components carry the same date letter and maker's mark, identifying the chain as originating from Birmingham in 1914.
An Albert chain is a decorative chain initially used to attach a pocket watch to the wearer's clothing. The chain was named after Prince Albert, who was said to have been fond of wearing watch chains. The Dog clip would have been used to attach a pocket watch or fob, and the T-Bar would go through the buttonhole of a waistcoat to secure it in place.
Today, these are worn as necklaces, and the clips can also be used to hang pendants or charms.
