Antique Victorian Grand Tour 'Days of the Week' Lava Cameo Ring

A memorising Grand Tour Days of the Week ring dating from the early 19th century, circa 1820. Seven cameo busts - carved from coloured lava and coral - are set in simple rub-over settings, each one depicting a classical god or goddess: Venus in white for Friday, Saturn for Saturday, in light olive; Sunday represented by Apollo (aka Sol) carved in coral; Monday is Diana (Luna) in grey; Tuesday is Mars; Wednesday is Mercury; Thursday is Jupiter (black).

These rings were made and sold in Naples in the 1820s as tourist souvenirs. They are set with different-coloured lava sourced from Mount Vesuvius and carved coral from the sea bed nearby. The tourists on “The Grand Tour” bought them and returned them to England.

This is a beautiful example of a Lava Cameo ring, which would make the perfect gift to the ultimate collector!

This antique cameo ring remains in very good antique condition. Like any ring of this age, it does have some minor wear around the settings. However, the carved cameos remain free from any damage. This would be a superb collector's piece to add to your antique jewellery collection.

If you require ring sizing, please get in touch. Most of our rings can be sized. This usually takes 7 days. We charge a small fee of £45 for standard sizing. Sizing of 3 sizes or more may be subject to an additional cost.

Please note items that have been sized or customised are not eligible for a return.

We gladly accept layaway on all items in our shop. 
All pieces may be reserved with a 20% non-refundable deposit. 
After the deposit is made, you then have 2-4 months to complete the outstanding balance at your own convenience without any pressure from us. 
We usually ask items under £250 to be paid within 2 months and any items over £250 to be paid within 3-4 months. But this can be discussed to suit you. 
If a layaway is cancelled, the deposit amount is non-refundable. You are only eligible for shop credit if a layaway item is returned.

You can return your item for a full refund for any reason. Just get in touch within 14 days of receiving your order if you wish to do so. Please see our FAQ page for more information on returns.
